KELSEY RANKIN

If there's a path, I'll find it. If there's not a path, I'll make one. I thrive on creativity and nature, new experiences, learning, expanding my mind, and connecting with and helping others.

I studied English and creative writing at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where I also interned as a staff writer for Buzz magazine and promotions manager with Illini Media + WPGU 107.1 FM, where I fell in love with guerrilla marketing and special events / promo. After graduating, I launched my career in insurance, which seems like a strange leap- but I’m grateful for the customer service and negotiation skills I learned there. I never lost my love for writing and marketing, and soon transitioned to the digital marketing world in 2013 as a freelance writer and account manager, quickly moving up to Digital Marketing Manager at a small digital startup agency. From blogging, to email marketing to keyword research, reputation management, SEO + SEM strategy, social media, web content creation, and beyond, I love using my writing and marketing skills to help and teach others - - if you need some good resources for digital marketing and SEO basics, let me know!

In my free time, I love to travel, research new places to travel, spend time outdoors hiking, climbing, surfing, playing disc golf, camping, practicing yoga, you name it. I also make jewelry and have had a blast building up my own brand on the side using my marketing skills!

Most overused word:

Free. Nothing is really EVER free – it’s an overused marketing hack. I see so many Facebook and Instagram ads offering “free” products or free trials (just pay an exorbitant amount in shipping, or be automatically enrolled in our monthly subscription box that you’ll inevitably forget about in a week!) Can we change gears to start attracting quality leads by providing real value, instead?
